South Asian Risk Assessment Clinic

Dr. Milan Gupta and Dr. Subodh Verma are pleased to announce the launch of the South Asian Risk Assessment Clinic. Individuals of South Asian ethnicity are at markedly increased risk of cardiometabolic diseases, and many physicians are now witnessing otherwise healthy South Asians in their practices having cardiovascular events or developing diabetes at an earlier age than expected.

The purpose of this clinic is to provide cardiovascular screening of individuals of South Asian descent in an effort to promote earlier risk factor modification, lifestyle interventions, and pharmacotherapy if appropriate. Furthermore, this clinic will attempt to provide ethnically tailored dietary and lifestyle counseling, and offer communication in various South Asian languages including Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi and Urdu.

Our mission is to reduce the burden of South Asian diabetes and cardiovascular disease in Canada by earlier screening and detection of risk factors, and implementing evidence based risk reduction strategies.

We welcome referrals for South Asian patients, particularly those family members of individuals who have documented cardiovascular disease. Please print the referral form and fax to our office for your patients. If you are a patient and would like to be referred for this clinic, please provide the referral form to your physician to be completed and submitted on your behalf.

You will find attached a review article that Dr. Verma and Dr. Gupta recently published in Circulation that addresses the issue of South Asians and Cardiovascular Risk.
